Josh Weil Builds Momentum, Has Raised Over $500k In Race for Congress in FL-06

Weil’s fundraising has taken off in the past two weeks, a reflection of growing Democratic enthusiasm in a race that has significant implications for the House majority

Florida — Today, Josh Weil, the Democrat running for Congress in the special election for Florida’s 6th Congressional District, announced that his campaign has raised over $500,000 in less than two months.

Josh Weil’s Fundraising Momentum, By The Numbers:

✅ Over $500,000 raised
✅ Over 21,000 donations
✅ $22.70 average contribution
✅ 99% of contributions under $200
✅ Zero dollars from corporate PACs

Weil’s fundraising has skyrocketed in the past two weeks, as Democratic activists and donors across central Florida and the country tune into a race that has significant implications for the U.S. House majority.

Weil, a public educator and single father, has built a powerful grassroots campaign focused on protecting funding for local schools, strengthening Social Security, expanding access to high-quality, affordable healthcare, and delivering economic relief for Floridians.

Josh Weil released the following statement:

“As a single dad of two boys and a public educator who has served these communities for over a decade, I know the challenges Florida families are facing. Prices are out of control. Home ownership and the American Dream feel out of reach. Schools are underfunded and underperforming. But instead of doing anything about it, career politicians like Randy Fine are fighting culture wars. I’m disgusted, and so are tens of thousands of Floridians across party-lines.”

“Our movement is powered by tens of thousands of regular people chipping in a few bucks at a time. We are building a campaign that can compete and win in this critical special election. It has been years since Democrats ran a well-funded and competitive campaign in FL-06. If our Party is committed to showing up and competing everywhere, this is the place to start.”

About the race for FL-06:

  • Josh Weil is running to replace former Congressman Michael Waltz, who officially resigned on Monday to serve as President Trump’s National Security Advisor.
  • The Democratic and Republican primaries are one week from today, January 28, 2025.
  • The general election on April 1, 2025 is seen as an early bellwether of Democratic enthusiasm in the new Trump-administration.
  • Weil’s likely general election opponent is Trump-endorsed State Senator Randy Fine.
  • With Rep. Waltz’ resignation, the Republican House majority is currently 217-215, and would fall to 216-215 if Rep. Elise Stefanik is confirmed to serve as UN Ambassador. A Weil victory would have significant implications for the U.S. House majority.
